Permanent Residency Visa for Cooks and Chefs in Victoria

Permanent Residency Visa for Cooks and Chefs in Victoria

On the 1st September 2021, the Victorian government commenced their Workforce Skills Pathway for their 491 and 190 State Nomination program. The WSP pathway aims to address the skills gaps in specific industries to support state or industry wide development.

The first industry occupations under this program are cooks and chef to address labour shortages in the hospitality industry.

The great news is that those currently working as a cook now have a pathway to apply for permanent residency!  As you be aware, previously only Chef could apply for PR, as cooks were excluded from both the skilled migration and employer sponsored migration program being only on the Short-Term Occupation List.

APPLY FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCY VISA

To apply for the Victorian Government state nomination program, the first step is to lodge a Registration of Interest.  This involves preparing the ROI and EOI to present your best profile to the Department.

The main eligibility requirements are:

  • meet the basic requirements under subclasses 190 or 491 visas;
  • be living and working in Victoria (there is no specified minimum duration)
  • be working as a cook or chef.
  • obtain a positive skills assessment as a cook or chef.
  • be under 45 at the time of invitation
  • have Competent English

Another important thing to note is that your ROI application must be decision-ready, as incomplete applications will not be considered by the Victorian government. You will not have another opportunity to provide more documents once submitted.

For those applying for the 491 you must also be living in regional Victoria

For the 2021-2022 migration program, the Victorian Government has 3500 places in the 190-visa program and 500 places in the 491 program.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our talented cooks/chefs who have been planning to live and work in Australia permanently without an employer sponsor.

If you miss out on this opportunity, there is no guarantee that this program will continue on to the 2022-2023 migration program.

So get started on your application now and seize this rare opportunity!
