This requirement serves as an indicator that the nominated position is sufficiently skilled to be eligible for the Employer Sponsored Visa Programme. Additionally, it ensures that overseas workers have reasonable means of support and are self-reliant, discouraging any pressure to breach their visa conditions. The TSMIT has been unchanged for the past decade at A$53,900 and has been the subject to numerous criticism for being a poor measure of skills, as most workers earn more than this amount. **NEW UPDATE** On 5 May 2023, the Department of Home Affairs announced an increase of the TSMIT requirement to ***A$70,000***, effective 1 July 2023. This increase raises the minimum salary that Australian employers are required to pay to its sponsored overseas workers.  Therefore, any new nomination applications lodged on or after 1 July 2023 must propose a base salary of at least A$70,000 in order to participate in the Employer Sponsored Visa Programme.  However, nomination applications lodged before 1 July 2023 will not be affected. **HOW CAN WE ASSIST?** At Agile Legal, we are a team of specialised immigration lawyers who have successfully assisted many organisations in sponsoring overseas talents to live and work in Australia.
